Cause/Resolution: 

High payroll variance usually results from one of the following: 

  1. A new employee with an incorrect Salary entered.
    • Usually the annual salary amount was entered rather than the amount per pay period. 
  2. Too few or too many hours.
    • One or more salaried employees did not finish their timesheet, or entered more than the standard 40 hours per week.
