Summary:
How to apply a Cumulative Update
Description:

Which server should it be run on?
When should it be run?
Do users have to be logged out of the application?

Resolution:   To apply a Cumulative Update for Vision:

  1. Download the appropriate Cumulative Update from our support site, and save it in a folder on your Vision Web/Application server.    For CU 99, the executable file is named DeltekVision76CU99.exe
  2. Make sure that there are no jobs running that are using the Vision databases. You can turn off the DeltekProcessServer service to make sure that no jobs will fire up while you are running the Cumulative Update.
  3. Make sure all users are logged out of Vision.  You can go to Vision > Utilities > User Activity to disable all users  (except for the administrator).  This will prevent them from logging back in again.  The Cumulative Update installation will restart IIS, and will kick out any users who are still logged in.
  4. As a precaution, make a manual backup of your Vision databases.
  5. Launch the Cumulative Update executable file on the Vision Web Application server. It will upgrade the program files on the server.  It will also attempt to run a script upon your SQL databases. You can allow the script to run automatically.
  6. If the script is not run automatically, you will need to run it later on each of your Vision databases. Typically, the scripts are loaded into the folder ...\Program Files\Deltek\Vision\Databases\Scripts. The script will have a name like DeltekVision76GACU99.sql  (For Unicode databases, the script will be called  UnicodeDeltekVision76GACU99.sql)
  7. If you need to run a script manually, and if your SQL Server services are running on another server, you will need to copy the script over to the SQL server and run it there.
  8. After the update has finished, you can turn the DeltekProcessServer service back on.
  9. If you had disabled users, you can log back in to Vision as an Administrator.   Go to Utilities > User Activity and enable the users again.
  10. When users attempt to log back into Vision, the client files will be reloaded for this version.
  11. If there is a dedicated Process Server, where the Deltek Process Server service runs an a machine other than the Web/App Server,  it is necessary to also run the Cumulative Update executable on that server. The Process Server runs using local binary files, rather than remote calls to the web server, so the program code on the Process Server must be identical to the program code on the Web/App Server.
